Rules and Expectations

6th Grade Rules and Expecations

Classroom Rules

  • Students will RESPECT the learning environment and others’ time and space.

  •  Students will control CONVERSATION as the activity requires.

  •  Students will control MOVEMENT by remaining in their seats unless instructed.

  • Students will PARTICIPATE in all activities as directed.

  • Students will ASK for ASSISTANCE by raising hands.

  •  Students will FOLLOW DIRECTIONS given by staff in the classroom.

Communication

Students must check Google Classroom each Monday whether in class or at home to receive an overview of the week and the weekly assignments. Email must be checked each day as well for personal communication between student and teacher, returned work, or late/missing work notifications. Students must send questions about assignments through their school gmail account- NOT through Google Classroom.

Being Late to Class

A student will be counted tardy if he/she is not in his/her seat when the tardy bell rings.  There is a four minute passing period in which students are allowed to go to their lockers, use the restroom, and get a drink of water.  Students are expected to take care of these things during the passing period.  Multiple tardies will result in detentions assigned by the assistant principal.

Grading Policy

There are two grading categories for this class.  Daily work will count 60% of the student’s nine week average, Tests & Quizzes will count as 40%. These grades will be a direct reflection of the student’s understanding of the 7th grade TEKS - the state objectives for 7th grade ELAR. It is very important that students complete work in class and at home when needed. Even though an assignment may not be a graded assignment, it is important to the learning process and still must be completed. In this class, daily work is intended to be used as a way of measuring student learning.  Daily work will be graded as follows:

A = 100 Student exceeds expectations and understanding of content

B = 90 Student masters expectations and understanding of content

C = 80 Student meets expectations and understanding of content

D = 70 Student does not meet expectations and understanding of content

Test grades will be true percentage grades.

Assigning Work

Assignments will be generated and updated through Google Classroom. Whether we are learning face to face in the classroom or remotely from home, all assignments, tests and due dates will be updated through Google Classroom. If there is a question about an assignment or when it is due, check there first for updates.

Late Work Policy

When an assignment is due, it is to be turned in before the Google Classroom due date. An assignment will be considered late if the  TURN IN or MARK AS DONE button is not selected.  Google Classroom automatically time stamps all assignments. A late assignment will receive a maximum grade of 70 and after the third late day, the assignment automatically becomes a zero.  Students will not be allowed to correct late assignments.

Absent Work

Assignments and lessons will be posted weekly on Google Classroom, so any time a student is absent, lessons may be accessed from home. Any assignments that were missed during his/her absence will be due no later than three days after the student returns.  After three days, the late work policy will then apply to those assignments.  If the student’s absence is UNEXCUSED, then all assignments will be counted as a late assignment automatically, but will still need to be completed within three days, or the student will be given a zero  for those assignments.  Regular attendance is crucial to a student’s development and to successful learning, so make sure you are in class as much as possible.

Parent Portal

Parents and students can track academic progress by logging into Parent Portal.  The Parent Portal link can be found on the FISD website.  Parents and students can see all grades for graded assignments, tests, and can see what work is missing. Grades are entered to the system by the end of the day on Tuesdays. A returned grade notification will also be sent through Google Classroom. Students should be checking their grades weekly through Parent Portal.

Corrections

In order to correct a poor grade, students will be expected to show mastery of the content.  This may be through verbal or written activities.  Mastery will improve daily work and test by one letter grade (10 points).  Students may choose to correct any daily work. Students may only correct test scores below a 70.

Technology Contract

Students are assigned a device for the class, are responsible for cleaning and storing the device properly, and must report any damage to the device. Any violation in these regulations could result in the student not being able to participate with classroom technology.
